There is a swim-up pool bar on Pacific Pearl which has a taster cruise in January.

IT is a short cruise to nowhere that ticks all the boxes for first time passengers who are wary about taking a longer cruise. Over a long weekend they can dip their toes tentatively into life on the high seas and discover what an ocean cruise is all about.

As passengers they sail out of a local port and back again while sampling the onboard activities, entertainment, restaurants and bars, as well as the spa and gym.

And if all gels these first timers are likely to book a longer cruise, and join more than half a million Australians who will take a cruise this year.

These short break cruises are called “tasters”, and the onboard mix also includes groups of friends, and those who are time-short and cannot leave work or home, for longer periods.

As australiancruisingnews.com has found, it is an easy holiday option with no need to organise anything other than pack an overnight bag and be at the departure port on time.

Pacific Dawn has a 3-night sailing from Brisbane at the end of this month (August) and another one in January and Pacific Pearl has a 3-night cruise out of Sydney in January, www.pocruises.com.au

Such cruises are keenly priced from around $600 per person to attract first timers with food, accommodation and entertainment all included.
