Norway’s stunning coastline was named best destination in Cruise International magazine’s annual cruise awards.

INVARIABLY, awards carry kudos, and help set even higher standards in the ever-growing cruise industry.

Interestingly, leaders in the cruising world often drop up and down  award ladders as shipping lines are so keenly competitive these days that it is often hard for one to stand out from another. notes that the latest awards come from Cruise International, the British consumer magazine that focuses on cruise holidays. Its awards were voted by 25,000 readers,

The magazine’s 2014 awards named  Princess Cruises ( as best ocean cruise line with P&O Cruises ( highly commended.

Cunard ( was named best luxury ocean cruise line with Celebrity ( highly commended.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Getaway ( carrying 4000 passengers, was named best new ship, with Princess Cruises’ Regal Princess (3600 passengers) highly commended.

On the river front, Viking ( was tops with Scenic Tours ( highly commended, and Uniworld ( was named best luxury river cruise line with Scenic Tours highly commended.

Finalists as the best cruise destination were Alaska, Barbados, Norway, St Petersburg and Venice, with Norway topping the poll and Venice as the runner-up.

The editor of Cruise International, Liz Jarvis, says 2014 has been a fantastic year for the cruise industry, and that exciting new ships and itineraries offer even greater choices for cruise passengers in the future.
