THERE are signs that some cruise lines are heading the same way as airlines by introducing exclusive areas for those who pay more.

Sky suite guests on Celebrity Solstice will soon eoy the same benefits as other suite guests.

And while australiancruisingnews.com says it may be outrageous to suggest that cruise passengers will soon be classed as economy, business, or first-class, there are certainly moves in that direction.

Celebrity Cruises’ has just announced that its suite class passengers – their accommodation is often more like a small apartment than an everyday cabin – will be offered even more of “the suite life” at sea.

Indulgent services include a personal butler; an exclusive restaurant called Luminae, which only serves suite guests; and a private lounge with a dedicated concierge. Another perk will be daily “delectable delights” created by Celebrity’s Michelin-starred chef Cornelius Gallagher.

From next month, Sky Suite guests onboard Celebrity Solstice will “join the club” – that’s Michael’s Club – alongside other Suite Class guests. The lounge offers complimentary cocktails, appetizers, and a dedicated Michael’s Club Concierge, celebritycruises.com/suiteclass

Other cruise lines offer similar services under other guises, as well as exclusive areas where there is a day charge, such as Princess Cruises’ adults-only retreat where there is not a child within coo-ee, princess.com.au

Right now frequent cruisers have exclusive benefits when they set their loyalty sails with a particular cruise line, including special cocktail parties, private lounges, and suite upgrades when available. Such perks are akin to being in an airline’s frequent flyer programme.
